Join us and help create safe, supportive homes
We’re excited to be growing our Housing Team and are looking for a Housing Assistant to join us at an important and positive time of development.
This newly created role is part of a wider investment in our housing services, designed to ensure tenants feel safe, supported, and empowered in their homes. If you’re organised, people‑focused, and motivated by making a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
This is a full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week), primarily home-based, with travel to Mencap offices and sites as required.
Travel requirement:
The posholder will be required to use their own vehicle for business purposes and must hold valid business‑use insurance. While the salary does not include a car or cash allowance, mileage will be reimbursed in line with HMRC rates (45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles per year, and 25p per mile thereafter).
About the role
As a Housing Assistant, you’ll play a vital part in supporting the delivery of high-quality housing management services within our supported living settings. Working closely with the housing team and reporting to the Head of Housing, you’ll help keep services running smoothly while building strong relationships with tenants, colleagues, and external partners.
This is a varied and rewarding role that offers flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to contribute to meaningful outcomes for people with learning disabilities.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing high-quality administrative and organisational support to the housing team
- Maintaining accurate records and supporting effective data management
- Acting as a first point of contact for tenants, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Supporting housing management activities including tenancy management, repairs, voids, and customer service
- Attending meetings with tenants and stakeholders as required
- Helping tenants to sustain their tenancies and feel safe and confident in their homes
What we’re looking for
- Strong administration and organisational skills, with good attention to detail
- Ability to manage and prioritise your own workload effectively
- Confident communication skills and a friendly, professional approach
- A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to work flexibly
- A commitment to quality service delivery and supporting others
- Previous experience or knowledge of housing management is desirable, but not essential - we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a genuine passion for community-focused work.
What we offer
- A role where your work genuinely makes a difference
- Flexible, mobile working with variety and autonomy
- Supportive colleagues and a collaborative team environment
- The opportunity to help create safe homes and sustainable communities
- The chance to be part of an evolving service with a strong social purpose
If you’re committed, proactive, and keen to make a real difference by helping create safe and supportive homes, we’d love to hear from you.
Please apply as soon as possible, as we may close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, which may include a competency-based assessment. Interviews may be held in person or via Microsoft Teams.
