    Mencap is looking for dedicated, caring, and enthusiastic Support Workers to join our service in Thorpe‑Willoughby on a permanent, full‑time basis. If you’re passionate about supporting people with a learning disability to live happy, independent, and fulfilled lives, we’d love to hear from you.

    This role requires you to be a driver and hold a full UK driving licence, as you’ll be supporting people to access their local community and live life on their own terms.

     

    About the Role

    As a Support Worker, you’ll support a diverse group of individuals, each with their own abilities, personalities, and goals. You’ll provide high‑quality, person‑centred support that promotes independence, dignity, and choice.

    Your responsibilities may include:

    • Supporting independent living – managing budgets, paying bills, household tasks, organising appointments, and preparing healthy meals
    • Communication & relationship‑building – helping people understand the world around them and maintain positive relationships
    • Community & social inclusion – supporting individuals to take part in local activities, social events, and experiences
    • Personal care – assisting with or prompting medication, bathing, showering, and daily routines (levels of personal care vary by service)

    Every service is different, so flexibility is important. Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, with some services also offering sleep‑in or waking night shifts.

    Rotas are provided at least 4 weeks in advance, so you can plan your personal and social life.

     

    What We’re Looking For

    You’ll be a great fit if you have:

    • A genuine passion for supporting others
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships
    • A positive, patient, and empathetic approach
    • Flexibility to work a range of shifts
    • A full UK driving licence (essential for this service)

    💡 Experience in care is helpful but not essential — we’ll provide full training and ongoing development.

    Important Information

    • This role does not meet the salary threshold for Health & Care Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK
    • All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references
