Are you looking for a rewarding role where every day is different and you can make a real difference to people's lives?
At Mencap, we believe that people with a learning disability should have the opportunity to live life with independence and choice. We are currently looking for caring and enthusiastic Support Workers to join our teams in Peterborough.
As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in helping people with a learning disability live independently and achieve their personal goals. You will support people with day-to-day living, encouraging and promoting independence while building positive and meaningful relationships.
Part of your role will be supporting people with household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, managing their post or helping them budget while shopping. Your day could also involve accompanying the person you are supporting to a local café or garden centre for coffee and cake, attending arts and crafts groups, attending day centres and local volunteering, enjoying a trip to the cinema, visiting family and friends and more.
Depending on individual needs, you may also provide support with personal care, medication administration and manual handling. We support a range of individuals with different interests, abilities and support requirements, so flexibility and a person-centred approach are essential.
We have both full-time and part-time opportunities available. Due to the varied needs of the people we support, candidates must be fully flexible and able to work a range of shifts across seven days a week. Working patterns can vary and may include mornings, evenings, weekends and sleep-in shifts.
To be successful in this role, you will be someone who is compassionate, patient, positive and committed to helping people live fulfilling lives. You will need to be adaptable, enjoy working as part of a team and be confident supporting people with different needs. A full UK driving licence is essential due to the needs of the people we support and the community-based nature of the role.
If you're passionate about making a difference and want a career where every day brings new opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.
Please note: This position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for a Health and Care visa under the UK Skilled Worker route, as set by the Home Office. Therefore, although Mencap is a licensed sponsor, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK, as we are not able to support new visa applications or sponsorship requests for this vacancy.
All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
