Watford Mencap is a local charity providing high-quality social care and support to over 650 people with learning disabilities and their families across South-West Hertfordshire. They are an independent, self-funding organisation affiliated with Royal Mencap, with a strong, sustainable business model and a person-centred approach. With 170 staff and 30+ volunteers contributing over 5,000 hours last year, they deliver a wide range of services including housing, community activities, work-based training, and social support.

Watford Mencap are now looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator (20 hours per week) to develop, recruit, and support their volunteer team. You will play a key role in growing and diversifying our volunteer base, ensuring volunteers feel valued, supported, and inspired to contribute.

The role will involve:
• Recruiting and retaining volunteers across the charity, from reception and buddy roles to fundraising and trustees.
• Enhancing the volunteer experience through recognition, support, and opportunities for skill development.
• Promoting volunteering opportunities in the community, attending fairs, and building partnerships with local groups and businesses.
• Supporting managers with good practice in volunteer management.
Watford Mencap are looking for someone who can bring people together, support others with empathy, and confidently promote volunteering in the community. It is essential that you have:
• Experience of recruiting, supporting, and coordinating volunteers.
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and presentation skills.
• Ability to empathise with and support volunteers.
• Confident use of Microsoft Office and social media.
• Knowledge of best practice in volunteer management, safeguarding, and health & safety.
• Ability to work flexibly, including evenings/weekends when required.
• Ability to travel across South West Herts (car owner, insured for business use, clean licence).
You'll be approachable, creative, resilient, and a natural motivator, be able to build positive relationships at all levels, work on your own initiative, and inspire others to volunteer.
