We are currently looking for a Governance Manager to join the organisation in a full time, permanent position (37.5 hours per week). Here at Mencap we understand that some of our office based colleagues can do their role from a range of locations, which is why we like to be flexible. We only ask for this role that you can commit to one full day in our London Office per week, plus attend Board and Committee Meetings.
🔍 What will you do?
- Provide our Board of Trustees (we currently have 10), our Chief Executive and the Executive team with excellent governance advice and support.
- Work with colleagues across Mencap to advise and support running effective governance meetings, ensuring that Board and Committee meetings are coordinated and delivered to a high standard.
- Develop, implement and maintain Mencap's governance frameworks.
- Use your effective communication skills and interpersonal skills to build relationships and liaise with varying internal colleagues in the organisation, including the Board and Executive teams.
- Manage specific projects, such as leading on trustee recruitment, induction and Board development.
- Ensure the organisation complies with governing documents and regulatory requirements.Support the Company Secretary with compliance reporting, including with our regulators and managing serious incidents.
- Use initiative to make continuous improvements in our governance practice.
The Governance directorate works at the heart of the organization. We advise and support the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive to set the direction of the organization; and partner with the Executive to be accountable for delivery of our ambitious plans to give people with a learning disability every opportunity.
🧠 What will you bring?
- Experience and expertise in governance.
- Practical knowledge of charity and/or corporate governance best practice.
- Understanding governance requirements of a charity with trading subsidiaries and affiliated partners.
- Evidence of strong influencing skills at executive and board levels.
- Organisation and administration of corporate events and conferences.
