Mencap are seeking a female Relief Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive team at our supported living service in Gateshead.
As a Relief Support Worker, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference by supporting a gentleman in his 60s to live an independent, active and fulfilling life within his local community.
This is a rewarding role for someone who is person-centred, motivated and passionate about helping people achieve their goals and maintain their independence.
About the role
The gentleman you will be supporting has a great sense of humour and enjoys a range of activities, including trips to the theatre and cinema, visiting local pubs, watching quiz shows and following football on television. He is also very fond of his small dog, who is an important part of his daily life, so support may occasionally include helping him care for and spend time with his pet.
We’re looking for someone who shares his enthusiasm for getting out and about, enjoying life and making the most of opportunities within the local community.
Shift pattern
The shift pattern is:
- 10:00am – 11:00pm
- Sleep-in: 11:00pm – 7:00am
- 7:00am – 10:15am
As this is a relief position, shifts and hours will vary depending on the support required. Our services provide 24-hour support, and rotas are prepared at least four weeks in advance to help you plan your personal and social life.
There is also a non-contractual sleep-in payment of £63.70.
What we’re looking for
- A genuine passion for supporting others
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships
- A positive and empathetic approach to supporting people with learning disabilities
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Someone who can use their initiative and provide high-quality, person-centred support
