  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Senior Programme Coordinator to lead the delivery of Mencap’s Volunteer to Work programme, part of our Employ Me supported employment services.

This position is part time, 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and is home-based, with national travel

The successful candidate will provide operational leadership across Volunteer to Work contracts, managing and supporting a dispersed team of Employment Connection Agents and Caseworkers. You will ensure the programme is delivered in line with agreed delivery models, funding requirements and quality standards, while working closely with colleagues across Employ Me, Retail, Volunteering and Fundraising.

The role also plays a key part in supporting programme sustainability, contributing to income generation activity through robust delivery, impact reporting and learning, and strengthening the skills and confidence of staff through learning and development activity.

This role would suit someone with experience of managing programmes or services within employability, volunteering or supported employment, who is confident leading teams, improving practice, and working collaboratively to deliver meaningful outcomes.

    You’ll be responsible for:

    • Leading the delivery of Volunteer to Work programmes across multiple areas nationally, ensuring a consistent, high‑quality experience for participants, staff and partners.
    • Leading the day‑to‑day operational delivery of the Volunteer to Work programme across a defined area.
    • Line managing and supporting Employment Connection Agents and Caseworkers, including supervision, performance management and development.
    • Supporting learning and development activity, including identifying training needs, sharing best practice and contributing to the development of staff capability.
    • Ensuring delivery meets contract requirements, KPIs, quality standards and funder expectations.
    • Monitoring performance and outcomes, using data and insight to drive continuous improvement.
    • Working collaboratively with internal teams including Employ Me, Retail, Volunteering and Fundraising to support effective programme delivery.
    • Contributing to programme sustainability and income generation by supporting impact reporting, learning capture, case studies and evidence for funding activity.
    • Building and maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders such as employers, funders, partners and commissioners.
    • Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies are fully embedded in delivery.

    What we’re looking for:

    • We’re keen to hear from people with:
    •  Experience managing or coordinating programmes, projects or services, ideally within employability, volunteering or supported employment.
    • Experience line managing and supporting frontline delivery staff, including those working independently or across multiple locations.
    • A strong understanding of person‑centred approaches for people with a learning disability.
    •  Confidence working with targets, outcomes, contracts and performance data.
    • Experience contributing to learning and development activity, quality improvement or service development.
    • Awareness or experience of income generation or funding environments, including supporting reporting, evidence collection or programme sustainability.
    • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders, including employers, partners or funders.
    • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
    •  Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted, professional relationships.
    • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and improving employment outcomes for people with a learning disability.
Please see the Job Description for a more extensive list of responsibilities, experience and key skills required for this role.

If you’re ready to support teams, shape delivery, and help create real opportunities for people with a learning disability, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with a full application. Mencap operates a blinded recruitment process, and CVs will not be reviewed until interview stage.
