Part Time Area Administrator – York

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and professional, part-time Administrator (30 hours) to support our management teams, based at Upper Poppleton, near York.

This is an office-based role working Monday to Friday – hours 09:00 to 15:00 but with some flexibility to suit the ideal candidate.

Unfortunately, Mencap is unable to offer sponsorship for this position as the role is not eligible under the current skilled worker visa guidelines issued by the home office. 

Your role will be to provide administrative support to Service Managers and Area Operations Managers and indirectly, as a result, the people we support. There will be an opportunity to become involved in some project work, job fairs and any other ad-hoc events.

You will also be responsible for the smooth functioning of the office which will include stationery and kitchen supplies, liaising with cleaners and maintenance services and ensuring the office space is neat, tidy and well-organised.

A flexible approach is important, as you could be managing multiple tasks at any one time. You will be someone who is competent, self-motivated, honest and forward thinking, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Two year’s proven administrative experience.
  • A team player with a collaborative approach and solution focused thinking.
  • Someone who is confident to work independently.
  • Excellent typing and computer skills - particularly experience using the
    Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint).
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humour.
You will have experience of:
  • Providing administrative support to a large team.
  • Drafting and formatting letters and reports in line with company policy.
  • An excellent telephone manner and able to take detailed and accurate messages.
    This will include liaising with families, social workers and professionals.
  • Note taking / minute taking to a good level.
  • Some experience with recruitment would be an advantage.
