As well as our award winning induction programme, you will receive additional bespoke training for this service, covering a number of other skills, such as; Peg feeding, Epilepsy, Dysphagia, in addition to specialist training for specific interventions. Mencap are hugely committed to the ongoing personal and professional development of their staff and will support you every step of the way.

You will need to be able to work flexibly across a range of different shift patterns, including various day shifts, evenings and weekends, as well as sleep in duties. We will be recruiting a separate team for the Waking Night shifts, so if you are interested in working nights, we would love to hear from you too.
We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota will be prepared well in advance - get a request, something special going on? Your manager will certainly try to help you meet it. Please note that the role will involve manual handling and supporting people with all aspects of their personal care.
You don't need previous experience! As long as you have a positive attitude and want to improve the lives of those with a learning disability, we will support you with progression opportunities throughout your career with us.

What does a Relief Support Worker do?  As a Relief Support Worker, you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will enormously contribute to the people we support, living a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life.

    • Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
    • Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
    • Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
    • Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day.  This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom.  Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
