Join our supportive team at the Mencap Training Academy in Islington, where you will play a key role in delivering the educational component of our Study Programme. This programme supports young people with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism to develop essential life skills and prepare for Supported Internships and employment.
What You’ll Do
Teaching & Learning Responsibilities

Design and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons that integrate Functional Skills in English and Maths into real-world employability contexts.

Support learners in developing practical life skills that promote independence and confidence in their local communities.

Deliver accredited qualifications in English and Maths, helping learners achieve up to Level 2.
Collaborative Support & Development

Work closely with colleagues to provide holistic support tailored to each learner’s needs.

Assist learners in preparing for and progressing into paid employment.

Contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications
-
A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS) is preferred.

Candidates with a Level 3 teaching qualification and a willingness to work towards a Level 5 will be considered.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
Experience
-
Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities, difficulties, and/or autism.

Proven delivery of Functional Skills English and Maths (up to Level 2).

Ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively and support a diverse range of learners.
-
Track record of working towards targets and KPIs.
Desirable
-
Experience working within a Supported Internship or employability-based setting.

Knowledge of employment preparation and workplace skills training.
-
Creative, flexible, and resilient approach to teaching and learner engagement.
-
Strong team player with a positive and solution-focused attitude.
