Barnet Mencap has been helping people with learning disabilities and/or autistic adults in the London Borough of Barnet for over 50 years. They provide supported accommodation, leisure and learning activities, information, advice, and guidance, and so much more. Barnet Mencap are looking for people who are able to work with individuals or groups on an occasional or regular basis. This could be in the community or supporting an individual in their home.
You may be working alone or alongside colleagues.
You will:
> be highly motivated and have a genuine interest in working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
> have good communication skills and the ability to keep written records
> be able to accept responsibility for either groups or individual service users and, in some cases, supporting volunteers
You will be able to work with your keyworker clients, supporting them to increase or maintain their independent living skills.
You will support them to access their communities and enrich their lives with new opportunities.
Every day will be different. You will be ensuring your clients are safe and healthy and have their varying needs met.
Building good and effective working relationships with your clients and colleagues is a must.

A community support workers role is incredibly rewarding. Community Support Workers give appropriate support to the needs of the individual service users within Equality Housing (Barnet Mencap) and the London Borough of Barnet to promote their independence and wellbeing. To ensure safeguarding is kept at the forefront of all the work that Barnet Mencap do.
Community Support Workers are in the first instance accountable to the Manager and Deputy of Equality Housing, and ultimately to the Board of Directors. Community Support Workers are responsible for having a good working knowledge of the Policies and Procedures of Barnet Mencap and Equality Housing and must always work within their guidelines.
