Location: Remote / Flexible (within the UK)
Contract: Fixed term until August 2027 (rolling contract)
Commitment: 1–3 days per month (flexible)
Rate: £350–£450 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Pharmacist to provide strategic advice and professional insight into medicines management and optimisation across Mencap.
Working within the Quality Directorate and reporting to the Head of Safeguarding and Compliance, you will play a key role in shaping Mencap’s medicines management strategy, supporting safe practice, and reducing over-medication for people with a learning disability.
This is a flexible consultancy position, ideal for an experienced pharmacist who wants to apply their expertise at a strategic, system-wide level.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on effective medicines management processes in line with legislation, professional standards, and ethical requirements.
- Support policy development and quality assurance systems to ensure compliance across services.
- Advise on best practice in medicines reconciliation, safe storage, handling, and administration.
- Contribute to initiatives to reduce inappropriate prescribing, aligned with STOMP/STAMP principles.
- Support organisational learning from medication-related incidents, analysing trends and contributing to improvement plans.
About You
You will have:
- A Master of Pharmacy degree (or equivalent).
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Strong knowledge of medicines management and optimisation, including STOMP/STAMP principles.
- Experience contributing to strategic projects, policy, and training design.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex pharmaceutical information into accessible guidance.
- A commitment to improving safety, quality, and outcomes for people with a learning disability.
