About Mencap

The Mencap Visiting Service supports older people with a learning disability who are often isolated and with little or no family. As a volunteer your visits will provide fun and companionship and an opportunity to do things the person enjoys.

Job Advert

Do you enjoy going out for a drive and visiting new places?

Could you support a friendly gentleman in his local community?

Are you available six times a year? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

In this role you will be supporting a gentleman in his 60's who really enjoys going out for a drive in his mobility car and going out for something to eat. He also loves going shopping to the local High Street. He has no verbal communication but loves being outside and watching activities happening around him.

He has few visitors and doesn’t see many people except his housemates and care staff. That’s where you come in – by visiting every other month you will make a huge difference. He will enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer who can give him some special attention and do activities with him.

Due to his limited mobility, a support worker will attend visits with you outside of the home. Visits will be every 2 months and are flexible depending on your availability. We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 year.

As a Mencap Visiting Volunteer you will be :
  • Reducing social isolation of people with a learning disability
  • Increasing the independence and confidence of individuals with a learning disability
  • Enabling people with a learning disability to fully access their local communities
