Are you a qualified legal professional with a passion for supporting people with a learning disability or autism? Do you want to use your legal expertise to make a meaningful difference?
 

We are seeking a Legal Advisor – Probate, Trusts & Property to join Mencap's Legal Team. In this role, you will help us provide transformative support through our discretionary trust services. By joining Mencap's legal team, you will utilise your legal knowledge and expertise by focusing on the smooth and efficient transfer of funds into a Mencap Trust Company trust to support a loved one with a learning disability or autism to live a happy and healthy life.

 

This is a part-time, flexible role (3 days/22.5 hours per week, with flexibility for this to increase up to a full-time/5 day role). We are flexible with your work location, but there will be monthly travel needed to the London office.

 

Your key responsibilities as a Legal Advisor – Probate, Trusts & Property

  • Lead the trust activation process, liaising with families, executors, and third parties to ensure efficient transfer of funds into Mencap Trust Company trusts.
  • Provide legal and technical support across the trust lifecycle, including drafting deeds, trustee resolutions, and supporting property transfers and trust wind-ups.
  • Act as legal advisor to the Mencap Trust Company team and contribute to internal training, process improvements, and documentation.
  • Support the Marketing and Trust Set-Up teams with technical queries and help raise awareness of trusts through seminars and outreach.
  • Be a proactive team player, contributing to wider trust services and ad hoc projects.

Do you have the experience to be our Legal Advisor – Probate, Trusts & Property?

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England or comparable jurisdiction), ideally with a practising certificate.
  • Experienced (2+ years PQE) in wills, trusts, and probate. A STEP qualification is highly desirable.
  • Skilled in drafting, negotiation, and legal casework, with strong analytical and communication abilities.
  • Familiar with conveyancing/property law and confident in managing a varied caseload.
  • Comfortable delivering training and developing legal templates and guidance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal systems like CCH Central (or similar).
  • A collaborative team member who can work independently and build strong external relationships.
