At Mencap we deliver a range of programmes designed to support people with a learning disability and/or autism to move closer to work. They may also have a history of offending or at risk of offending.
We are looking for passionate and self-motivated people to join our bank of Relief Job Coaches based in Birmingham. You must be in this area or within commutable distance. In this team of bank staff, you will provide individually tailored support for people with learning disabilities and/or autism who are in work, helping them to integrate into the working environment, developing skills and knowledge that will lead to sustained employment.
You will support the learners with 1:1 Job Coaching within the workplace. You will work closely with Caseworkers/Tutors to ensure robust individual learner assessment processes are followed to set targets and goals to monitor progression. These people will have a history of offending or at risk of offending. In this role, you will use your unique insights and personal journey to provide support, mentorship, and advocacy for individuals that are at risk of offending.
Relief Job Coach work will be via a relief bank. This means the work is as and when required. The work that is more likely to be short, ad hoc support. However, there may be some options for longer term work on occasions. Unlike zero-hour contracts, there is no obligation to take work offered. However, we do ask for full commitment for any work that is accepted. This is a fantastic opportunity for those seeking flexible working arrangements.
Having a positive attitude is more important than experience for this role. Many of the people we will support will take longer to learn new skills, so a Job Coach will need to be reassuring, patient and encouraging.
Everyone is different. Ideally, we would like to match people needing support with the most suitable Job Coach, so we need variety! People with similar interests, particular skills or experience in different sectors, people with life experience, people with lived experience of challenges, e.g. disability, mental health, rehabilitation or offending.
If you are looking for a flexible role that fits around your lifestyle, we’d love to hear from you!
