We are looking for Support Workers to join our Service based in Wellingborough on a permanent, part time basis (20 hours a week). We can be flexible with the number of hours offered and will consider applications from all interested candidates.  Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins, weekends and bank holidays.   
 

About our Service

We are a registered service in Wellingborough supporting 4 ladies and 1 gentleman all of whom require various levels of support. You will need to be patient, understanding, flexible and have the ability to use alternate communication methods. Mencap will provide training on all areas of support required to complete the role. 

You will be required to work in a person centred way providing the best possible support to help individuals achieve their best possible outcomes in everyday life. We like to go shopping, for walks, on holidays and taking part in activities using our sensory equipment. We enjoy watching TV shows. We enjoy having music on. We enjoy going to local events in other services within the area. We are close to the town centre and like taking walks around the local parks.  We have a great established staff team who have a good sense of humour.

You will need to provide full support with personal hygiene, update daily notes ensure medical appointments are made, and housework jobs are completed. Staff must be able to make decisions and use own initiative whilst working in a person centred way and evidencing Mencaps values.

 

What does a Support Worker do?

 

As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality.  Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
  • Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
  • Community & Social Inclusion supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.  
  • Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
