We are looking for volunteers to support people with a learning disability with learning the skills they need to use their computers, phones and Microsoft 365 functions independently. The people you will be volunteering with sit on the Voices Council, which works alongside our board of Trustees and raise important issues that people with a learning disability are facing at the moment.
They meet in person 4 times a year, but are planning on having access to laptops or phones so they can join Microsoft Teams meetings more often as needed, and have access to a Mencap email account. Your role will be to engage with members of the Voices Council to support them to be comfortable in using their devices, whether that is teaching them how to set up a password or how to join a Teams meeting and send an email.
This particular role will be primarily based in London as this is where they live, but they might also like ad hoc support to attend in person meetings as well if possible, this would include potentially travelling across England, Ireland and Wales (via public transport) to meetings with them and supporting them on the day. Through your support you can help empower them to use their technology more independently and comfortably, enabling to join more meetings and make sure their voice is heard.
We are looking for volunteers who are:
- 18 or over
- Friendly and approachable
- Reliable and patient
- Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
- Have good communication and listening skills
- Basic knowledge of how to use a smart phone or computer and knowledge of Microsoft 365 programmes
- Based in London and willing and able to travel when possible
