Job Advert

We support four gentlemen with learning disabilities and physical disabilities who all have a passion for being out in the fresh air, especially in the sun! They very much like to use the garden to host parties and BBQs.

We have a very large garden that we would love your help to restore it to its former glory so that our residents can once again utilise it for activities they have been missing.

We have one resident in particular that would to love to assist you with this project. He has a passion for gardening, as a child he used to work on a farm with his family and this is a memory that he is very fond of.

As a volunteer, you would not need to be a garden expert, but we do wish that you have a passion for being outdoors and getting your hands dirty.

Thistle be the best job ever!

When & where do I need to be available?

We are a very flexible house and volunteers would be able to help out whenever suits them. Weekends are evenings are also fine.

The resident that would particularly like to help out with the garden has 1-1 support between 8am and 4.30pm, so someone that could volunteer in these hours are ideal, however not crucial.

We are hoping for work on the garden to begin in February/March , in preparation for the summer.

As a Mencap Visiting Volunteer you will be:

  • 18 or over
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Reliable and patient
  • Able to use initiative
  • Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
  • Have good communication and listening skills

To continue to keep the people we support safe; we will continue to follow the government guidelines regarding Covid-19. This means due to impending changes to government legislation it will be mandatory, unless you are medically exempt, to have had both covid-19 vaccines prior to starting your volunteering role.
