Are you patient, kind, and passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities? Could you spare some time just once every two months to do just this?
We have a gentleman with Down's syndrome in his 60’s who would benefit from someone to pop in to say hello once every two months and maybe even head out for a drive once you had got to know each other, perhaps with a support worker.
He has very limited communication and is largely non verbal. He communicates instead with gestures, body language, facial expressions, and through leading you to what he wants. Some experience with learning disability would be helpful but not essential as long as you are patient and understanding.
He does not walk very far but enjoys getting out in the car perhaps for a cup of tea and a bit of cake.
2 references will be required by all successful applicants.

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support. This is becoming increasingly important as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill. In addition, you maybe asked to take a lateral flow test or wear PPE when you volunteer.
