Job Advert

Thanks to the ongoing success of the current service, we are looking to expand our team of dedicated Support Workers in Winchester.  We currently have a permanent, part time basis (32 hours a week) position available.

Shift times vary between 07:00 until 22:00 and sleep in shifts. Flexibility is important as all our shifts will be spread across the weekdays and alternate weekend working.  In addition, we are ideally looking for applications from individuals who hold a full, clean driving licence, however, this is not essential.

About the Service

We currently support nine gentlemen and five ladies across four services in Winchester, with ages ranging from early 20’s to late 80’s and varying support needs–offering a real variety in personalities and experiences.

The people we support need you to be understanding, reliable and most importantly caring – one of Mencap’s key values. They also need you to support them in accessing new activities and new challenges within the community – the people you are supporting will be able to verbally communicate where they want to go, they may also enjoy a wide variety of activities such as baking cakes, doing arts and crafts, sports and visiting different cities.

As all the people we support have their own support plan, each person likes to be supported differently – so again, flexibility is key. As you'll see, one or more of the people we support requires support with medication, one or more with personal care and one with becoming more independent. All of the people we support need you to be patient, kind and respectful – three things that make up the backbone of a good relationship.

As a Support Worker, you’ll need to have is a positive attitude a desire to improve the lives of those with a learning disability and to be reliable. If you support the people within our service, we will support you with award-winning training and induction into your new role with progression opportunities throughout your career with us.
