Job Advert

We support a 67-year-old gentleman who likes to get out and about, he likes to go for walks along the beach and stopping to collect some shells.

He likes to be outside in the fresh air exploring the area where he lives, his favourite animal is pigs and he would like a volunteer visitor to accompany him to the local farm.

He is a great lover of maintenance and likes to help take part in his homes upkeep.

You would need to have strong communication skills and able to stay on task, you will visit him at home where staff will help you both to get to know each other, then you will be able to explore and plan your days together.

As a Mencap Visiting Service volunteer, you will be visiting a person with a learning disability in their local community to spend time with them doing the things they want to do. You will be reducing social isolation, helping them to form relationships and supporting them to enjoy activities.

In your role as a Mencap Volunteer Visitor you will make 6 visits per year to your matched beneficiary. These visits are flexible. Each visit is unique to the individual being supported. Please note that this is a long-term opportunity to take place at weekends.

The Mencap visiting service was launched in 1963 and was designed to be a befriending service to adults with a learning disability for after their parents passed away.

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support.  This is especially important in direct support roles as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill.

In addition, it is mandatory that you take a lateral flow test on the day of your volunteering.
