Job Advert

Do you like walking?  Love a good cup of coffee or tea? Could you volunteer to help reduce social isolation?

We are looking for a volunteer to visitor to make 6 visits a year to a man in the Newcastle area who has a learning disability. Being active and enjoying going out for walks this is something he would like to do with a befriending volunteer.

If you have experience of working with people with communication difficulties that would support you in your volunteer role, however in the role you will be supported by your volunteer manager to learn new skills and adapt your approaches.

He has few visitors and doesn’t see many people except his housemates and care staff. That’s where you come in – by visiting every other month you will make a huge difference. He will enjoy spending time with a fun and friendly volunteer who can give him some special attention and do activities with him.

When & where do I need to be available?

Visits will be every 2 months and can be week days or weekends. Visits will probably last around 1 – 2 hours. The exact times can be flexible to your availability but we ask for a minimum commitment of 1 year.

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support. This is especially important in direct support roles as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill.

In addition, it is mandatory that you take a lateral flow test on the day of your volunteering.

If you would like more information about the volunteer role please see the role profile below or contact volunteering@mencap.org.uk
