Job Advert

The Coronavirus crisis and current lockdown has meant that a lot of the people we support are more isolated than before.  Some are unable to get out and about and may only see other people they live with.

We are looking to recruit a volunteer who would like to join a lady in her early 70's who lives in a care home in Reading.  To begin with you will telephone staff at her home every other month to check how she is.  Then when restrictions are lifted and it is safe for her to receive visitors, you will visit her every other month, 6 visits a year.

This lady likes small sensory toys to fiddle with, and going out for a drink or a meal.  She is a lady of few words, but as you get to know her you'll start to understand her likes & dislikes.

She will enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer like you. By visiting every other month, you will make a huge difference.

You will be introduced and get to know her with the support of Mencap staff.

When & where do I need to be available?

Visits are every 2 months and can be on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday.

Visits will last around 1-1.5 hours.

This person lives in Woodley, Reading.  Before applying please Check your journey to make sure it's practical for you.

As a Mencap Visiting Volunteer you will be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • A female volunteer if preferable for this role
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Reliable and patient
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Accepting of others who might be different from yourself
  • Able to use initiative and work autonomously

For more information contact Leila.Pearce@mencap.org.uk or click on the apply button

We look forward to hearing from you
