Do you want to make a positive difference to people’s lives?

We are looking for caring and enthusiastic female Relief Support Workers who are passionate about supporting people with a learning disability, to enable the people we support to live as independently as possible in our service in Great Tey, Colchester.

For some people, support work is something they’d love to do, but commitments outside of work make working a regular shift pattern or rota difficult. That’s where the Relief Support Worker role comes in. The difference is that the role isn’t contracted, so you aren’t expected to do a set number of hours every week – giving you the freedom to pick and choose shifts that work for you.

Typical working times include, but are not limited to, 07.00 – 14.30hrs, 09.00 – 15.00hrs, 08.00 – 16.30hrs and 14.30 – 22.00hrs and sleep-ins from 22.00 – 07.00hrs.

Working as a support worker isn’t like any other job! The role of a support worker is varied, sometimes challenging but greatly rewarding. It’s about giving as little or as much support required by each individual to enable them to achieve the things that are important to them and live life as they choose.

The individuals in the service need support with their medication, personal care, finances and daily living tasks- although they like to be as independent as possible! The individuals we support have a variety of hobbies that they enjoy doing, which they will need support with. The type of hobbies the people we support enjoy, are eating meals out, visiting the cinema and attending different clubs.

So, if you are looking for a job where you can make a difference in someone’s life, then this is the job for you.

Ideally you will have experience of working with people with learning and physical disabilities and an understanding of moving and handling and behaviours that may challenge, however this is not essential as we provide you with full, award winning training paid for by Mencap.

Due to the location of this service you would need a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.  We have three service vehicles so it is not essential for you to have business insurance.

(An enhanced DBS will be required for each successful candidate, paid for by Mencap (T&Cs apply).
