The Volunteer Role

Mencap supports a number of people with various different learning disabilities and difficulties through education and employment programmes to access and progress into paid work, suitable to their skills. We want people with a learning disability to have the opportunity to experience the benefits that paid employment can bring, including an increased income, improved wellbeing and greater confidence.

As part of our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance Strategy, we are committed to ensuring the people we support have multiple opportunities to engage with and learn from employers about work, and the skills that are valued in the workplace.

As a volunteer, you can make a difference by passing on the knowledge you have of your industry/vocational sector though remote sessions to learners across all of our programmes.

About the team

We are a national team supporting people with learning disabilities throughout England aged 16-25 years old.

The people we support are a great group of wonderful, enthusiastic, and fun loving individuals who are keen to expand their employability skills.

When do I need to be available?

This role is home-based. You will remotely deliver careers interviews with individual students. Each session will last around 45-60 minutes.  

We deliver our programmes during normal office hours from Monday to Friday. Days and times are flexible and would be arranged in advance to fit in with your availability.

There is no commitment to volunteering during evenings/weekends.

  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Level 6 Careers Practitioner qualification
