Mencap is in a season of dynamic change. The Executive Team and Board are currently consulting on a new vision and strategy. Though still in the early stages of forming the principles to guide us in the years ahead, what we know already is that this is a moment for bold innovation.
At this exciting moment of re imagination, we seek the help of a newly created leadership position, an Executive Director to design and build the Mencap Foundation.Our vision is that the Mencap Foundation will raise and distribute money to fulfill Mencap’s purpose of providing the vital spark so that all people with a learning disability in the UK can live happy and healthy lives.
The Foundation will provide the funding for people, assets and projects which will make people happier and healthier – whether delivered by Royal Mencap Society, our network of 325 local groups or independent organisations with whom we might partner.The introduction of a charitable foundation will turn Mencap’s current fundraising efforts upside down shifting the focus from existing to raise money, to existing to give it away meaningfully.
The Executive Director will develop ways of raising significant funding and then tracking every pound raised and spent and measuring its impact. Over time and through funding research,we expect the Mencap Foundation to not just be a provider of grants but also a thought leader,publishing position papers and the findings of relevant research.
The Foundation will be partnership-oriented, needing a leader who makes creative connections between ideas, people, and organisations and someone with a track record of leading growth.We are very open to whatever career background will have formed a sophisticated leader for this entrepreneurial opportunity.
The Executive Director of the Mencap Foundation will be highly strategic, innovative, agile enough to move from design to charting implementation, and an effective communicator.They will engage with a wide spectrum of partners with a common purpose of making the UK the world’s best place for those who have a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives.
