About Mencap

The Mencap Visiting Service supports older people with a learning disability who are often isolated and with little or no family. As a volunteer your visits will provide fun and companionship and an opportunity to do things the person enjoys.

Job Advert

You will spend time with a woman we support, visiting 6 times a year.

She is in her late 80s and lives in a residential home in Surrey with several housemates.

She is looking for a volunteer to visit to enjoy her favourite activities including knitting, doing nails and hair, colouring in or to sing a few of her much-loved songs such as Daisy Daisy. She also loves popping to the local café for a tea and a natter.

You will spend time with her at home or in the local community. Please note that she uses a wheelchair both in and outside of the home.

She will enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer like you. By visiting every other month, you will make a huge difference.

You will be introduced and get to know her with the support of Mencap staff. Please note that she would prefer a female visiting volunteer.

When & where do I need to be available?

Visits are every 2 months and can be flexible to your availability.

Visits will last around 1 - 1.5 hours.

She lives in Wallington, close to Sutton.

Before applying please check your journey to make sure it's practical for you.
