About Mencap

We want a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. Everything we do is about making this world a reality.

Job Advert

In this role, you will be supporting an outgoing and chatty lady, who likes to go out for lunch. Her hobbies include knitting, crochet, playing games, watching dvd’s and swimming.

She has been knitting neonatal baby bonnets and would love support to visit Watford general every month to see how her knitting is being used.

She would like a volunteer to come on a Friday afternoon, spending time out of the house and support her in doing the activities she enjoys.

We are looking for someone who has the patience to take the time listen to her and build a relationship so she can have someone outside of her support staff to talk to and do activities with.

When & where do I need to be available?

Once a week on a Friday afternoon in our supported living service in Hemel Hempstead.

We are asking that volunteers commit to at least 6 months of volunteering with us to ensure the people we support benefit from the friendship.

As a Mencap Volunteer you will be:

  • Aged 18 or over

  • Reliable and patient
  • Good communication and listening skills
