Are you interested in education and enthused by the idea of helping young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to progress into paid work? If so, we would very much like to hear from you!

We are currently looking for a Employer Engagement officer to work across Leicestershire ad Staffordshire  on The Right Place programme on a fixed term contract until March 31st 2020  (with the potential for this to be extended)

The Right Place is supported by funding from the Department for Education, working with employers and education providers across England with the aim of securing work placements for young people with a learning disability giving them the opportunity to get practical work-based learning experience, which will provide a smooth transition from education to paid employment.

The Employer engagement officer would engage with employers to secure unpaid work experience for students aged 16-24 who study at our college partners using vocational profiling to ensure work placements are person centred and provide the students with opportunities to learn and develop new skills.

They would work with employers to support them to accommodate students, including delivering Learning Disability Awareness training to employers, and on - going support throughout their journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing and meeting with potential employer/s
  • Completing detailed  monitoring and reports using Excel and our CRM System
  •  Successfully create 158 opportunities/ placements for people we support in a year
  • Delivering Learning Disability awareness training to employers

The ideal candidate for this role will be an excellent communicator with the ability to successfully negotiate with various people within their remit. This role will include extensive travel with occasional overnight stays as required. Travel expenses will be paid for within reason by Mencap.

Key Skills and Experiences:

  • Experience with negotiation or sales would be desirable but in no way essential
  • Experience and/or understanding of social care and learning disability would be highly advantageous
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Ability to quickly build rapport
  • An understanding of internships and/or apprentices would be beneficial
  • Good all round IT Skills/Ability
  • Willingness to travel within your remit
