Job Advert

You will spend time with a gentlemen in his 70's visiting him 6 times a year.

Our gentleman lives independently in a nice self contained flat but is supported by staff who check in on him every day.

He is a fun chap who follows Arsenal football club.  He really enjoys going for a mooch around the local charity shops and loves spending time in his local area and nearby high street.  He would very much like someone to that he can meet for a chat and a laugh.

You will spend time with our man joining in with his favorite activities. Visits can take place at home but he would love to go out for a meal with you or a trip out somewhere for a cuppa and a slice of cake and a friendly chat.

He will enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer like you. By visiting every other month, you will make a huge difference.

You will be introduced and get to know him with the support of Mencap staff.

About Mencap

1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability.

We have an ambitious vision for the UK to be the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives.

For more information about what a learning disability is click here

Volunteering with Mencap is YOUR opportunity to help us achieve this, whilst having the chance to develop your skills, meet new people and join a passionate and dedicated team.

The Mencap visiting service (MVS) was launched in 1963 as a befriending service to adults with a learning disability after their parents pass away.

We currently support over 300 people of all ages across the England and Wales.

MVS volunteers reduce social isolation, expand networks and build friendships.

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support.  This is especially important in direct support roles as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill.

In addition, it is mandatory that you take a lateral flow test on the day of your volunteering.
