We are looking for a visitor for a gentleman in the New Romney/Lydd area. We’ll call him Tim*
Initially you will get to know Tim by making regular phone calls to the home. He has a very limited vocabulary so when you call you'll speak with support staff to find out how he is doing. You might also like to write to and send him small gifts in the post. Once the pandemic is under control and restrictions will allow it you will meet him at his home
Tim is in his 50's and live in a lovely big shared house with a number of other housemates, who also have learning disabilities. Tim is a man of few words but absolutely loves anything to do with trains. He LOVES looking at pictures and videos of trains, trains in magazines, on YouTube and in books etc. He also enjoys singing old time nursery songs and tucking in to a bag of Maltesers.
You and Tim will spend time together doing some of the things he enjoys. You can of course explore new activities and interests as you get to know him. All visits will take place in his home where there will always be staff around who knows Tim well and will help and support you get to know him.
Tim will enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer like you and by visiting every other month, you will make a huge difference.
When & where do I need to be available?
You will meet Tim in his home which is in
beautiful and tranquil surroundings, Mencap staff will be there to introduce you to him on your first visit. Before applying please check your journey to make sure it's practical for you.
It would be great if you could volunteer for at least 1 year, visits are every 2 months. Days and times can be flexible to suit your availability.
