Job Advert

We support a lovely lady in her late 60's who lives in a shared house with a number of other residents with a learning disability.  In this role you will spend time together doing some of the things she enjoy by visiting 6 times a year.

She is a lovely lady who really enjoys a cup of tea and a chat. She loves to make pompoms, the bigger the better! She likes crafts and doing embroidery too.

Having a volunteer visit every other month would really make a difference.

Visits will take place at home initially, but once you get to know each other you could go out and about accompanied by support staff.

She will really enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer like you.

When & where do I need to be available?

Visits are every 2 months and can be during the week or weekends.

Visits will last around 1 - 1.5 hours or longer depending on what you plan to do.

Before applying please check your journey to make sure it's practical for you.

As a Mencap Visiting Volunteer you will be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Friendly, patient and reliable

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support.  This is especially important in direct support roles as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill.

In addition, it is mandatory that you take a lateral flow test on the day of your volunteering.

Benefits

  • Make a difference for a person with a learning disability
  • Training & induction to the volunteer role
  • Agreed out-of-pocket expenses (e.g. travel)
  • Mencap Extras – discounts from high street retailers
  • Meet new people
  • We'll value your contribution
  • Ongoing support from our Volunteer Coordinator, who will join you for your first visit
